Summertime Blues

A mixture of poor weather, loads of beer festivals and the continued absence of my bird lens has meant a distinct lack of postings on here recently. The good news regarding the lens is that it is now finally being repaired after sitting around at Canon's HQ in Milton Keynes for the better part of the spring - the bad news is that it will cost approximately twice the original estimate to fix, plus I'm still looking at another week to ten days! So in the meantime here are a few of the highlights from this time last year.

Common Kingfisher

juvenile Grey Heron

Common Darter

Barn Swallow

Wood Warbler

Great images - the Kingfisher is stunning. And I never saw a closeup of the Great Grey Heron - and I'd be hardpressed to make out differences to the american Great Blue Heron.
Kudos! Cheers, Klaus

Very little difference at all Klaus - only one GBH has ever been confirmed over here but there must have been plenty overlooked. Thanks.

I was really happy to see these - we'll all be glad when that lens returns! The images are stunning -

You sure have had a lousy spring without your lens. I think it is outrageous that they could keep your lens for this amount of time! Your favorite time of year - and no lens. Just stinks! I LOVE the kingfisher and the wood warbler! And it doesn't get any closer than the shot you have of the gray heron. Nice post, Bluebirder!

Apparently Canon were waiting for the quote to be accepted before repairing it, but the dealer I left it with never received one from them. I bet you Nikon users don't suffer these sort of problems! Anyway it shouldn't be long now - just as we're approaching the quiet time of year of course!! Thank you both for your comments.

That kingfisher is so colorful and close up it is awesome! I see you get some warblers, like the one here yakking at the sky.. do you pish? RE: my Grackle might be a E. Starling. I was undecided because neither the mom or baby had the spots like a Starling. How do I know?

I concede..you are right ~ It is a Starling alright. My friend says throw away the contacts and use my glasses... I say maybe I should drink more beer and stop pishing! Thanks luv!

Bluebirder - Canon...Nikon...whatever...welcome to the world of lousy service. Happens to everyone I know in just about every genre. Maybe the world is just too busy ;-)

Awesome photos. I am currently 'into' dragonflies, probably just because I am struggling to get that photo I am looking for. But in this case the Common Kingfisher gets my top vote. It is awesome. Oh, yeah, already said that. Have added you to my faves.
