female Great Crested Grebe keeps her eggs dry in the pouring rainHaving gotten my lens back from the repair shop only yesterday you could bet your mortgage on it being a wet weekend! And sure enough it wasn't ideal but at least the hide provided shelter from the elements, and not only that but some good views of an active Great Crested Grebe nest into the bargain. The birds are currently incubating what looks like five eggs and on past record should bring them to term, providing some great photo opportunities along the way.

The male reluctantly takes overIt would seem like the Kingfishers have had a successful spring since the number of birds seen this morning would indicate a family party on the loose. It was this time last summer when I had my greatest success with the little fish-snatchers but I'm hoping to go one better this year by capturing them in the act. A bit of scrim-netting and a lot of patience are key ingredients for photographing Kingfishers and I shall be armed with both during the weeks to come.

Congratulations on finally getting your big glass back - and you put it to good use! These are wonderful.
Good shots despite the rain! I'm still hunting for my 1st usable kingfisher!
Cheers, Klaus
