Redshanks

Old Moor RSPB reserve in South Yorkshire is next to useless for bird photography unless you're happy snapping Blue Tits on feeders. The problem is the proximity of the hides, or rather lack of it, to the water.

Today was the finest of the year so far so no problems with light, which was just as well or these Redshanks (the only birds to get anywhere near) may have lost their appeal also.

They sure didn't lose their appeal, Will! They are gorgeous! I have the same problem at my local lake - no good place to get close. There is one blind that is quite deep into the park...but my hubby doesn't like me there alone.....

I've started to ignore some great places recently because I know photo opportunities will be at a premium. It's a foolish way to go really as essentially I'm a birder who sometimes takes pictures NOT a photographer who sometimes photographs birds. I'll end up missing out on the essence of the hobby if I'm not careful!
